Orange Mountain Bikes - Five 29 Frame Spec Sheet
From the 2013 Archive
Overview
Whether you want to get to the top of the podium at an enduro race, ride a boulder-strewn pass in the Lakes or turn the wick down at your local woods, the combination of low weight, efficient wheels and honed geometry means that this bike will go as fast as you tell it to.
The Five 29, as it is now known, has been making waves since the early summer of 2012. Initial reactions were overwhelmingly positive with many commenting on the sheer speed and stability of the bike. Further outings confirmed the initial reactions with the bikes being firm favourites when it's time to hit the trails. This frame version gives you the perfect starting point for your 29er Dream build.
What makes this bike so special is the right combination of the usual Orange Bikes' hallmarks plus a dusting of all-new features. You will no doubt be familiar with our unrivalled single pivot design, renowned for it's reliability and simplicity; our monocoque construction keeps weight and flex to a minimum while our proven geometry provides a stable ride no matter where you take it. New shock mounts are much larger allowing for tighter tolerances while distributing weight more evenly, putting less stress on the downtube. This in turn gives us the ability to use a thinner alloy, further reducing weight. A straight-through 49 mm ID headtube gives greater options for headsets and steerer tubes to fit all combinations while coming in lighter than the standard tapered unit. The 29 inch wheels is the game-changing addition to the mixture. The Five and Alpine 160 geometry has long been renowned but never before had it been mated to the trail-taming 29-inch wheels. ISCG tabs allows the fitment of chain guides should a single or double ring out front is the preferred route. Full outer cable routing for the front mech ensures smooth shifting regardless of conditions.
Why the Five 29?
